The Port Dickson MP said that if Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had “any integrity left”, he should resign because he is not prepared to face Parliament due to a lack of confidence in his majority support.
“Now that we have established the facts, we leave it to the Agong to decide what is best to save this country from the present crisis,” he said at a press conference at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Anwar added that the opposition would monitor developments over the next one or two days first.
“If needed, we will request for an audience (with the King),” he said.
Anwar also claimed that the prime minister and Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun were still attempting to go against the King’s words and using “trickery” to avoid a parliamentary sitting.
Earlier, the house was informed that two positive cases were detected in the building and all MPs and staff would have to undergo Covid-19 screening, delaying proceedings until 5.15pm.
This came shortly after Istana Negara issued a statement revealing that the King had not consented to the revocation of the emergency ordinances.
“We can carry out screenings without disrupting parliamentary proceedings. The majority of the MPs today think that Muhyiddin has been impeached, fired and ousted from his post as prime minister,” said Anwar.
He also called for Azhar and law minister Takuyuddin Hassan to resign following today’s events.
