
Her resignation was effective yesterday.
Rosni, who is also Wanita Umno secretary, said in a statement here that the decision was in line with the party’s stand to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional government.
She joins a list of Umno leaders who have been quitting their government-appointed posts, in what is seen as a strategy by the party to apply pressure on the Muhyuddin Yassin-led Perikatan Nasional government.
So far, two Umno ministers, Noraini Ahmad and Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, have resigned as higher education minister and energy and natural resources minister respectively.
Besides them, a number of Umno representatives in government-linked companies (GLCs) and public universities have announced their resignations.
Sabah Umno’s Abdul Rahman Dahlan resigned as Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s chairman with immediate effect. The Umno Supreme Council member said his decision was based on the party’s decision to retract support for the PN government.
Balik Pulau Umno chief Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah quit his post as a board member of Universiti Putra Malaysia, saying it was his duty as a party member “to abide by and respect any decision by the party”.
Others included party vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who quit as the chairman of Boustead Holdings Bhd, and Sabah Umno Youth chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain, who quit as Boustead’s independent and non-executive director.
Umno Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii had also stepped down from his post as a board member of Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT).
