Lim noted the Selangor government’s announcement that 200,000 doses will be loaned to Penang, to be returned by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) at a later date.
While he welcomed the loan of the vaccines, he said Amirudin, whom he met at a private meeting on Aug 23, proposed a donation of 20,000 Sinovac doses to Penang.
“No mention was made of Penang borrowing 200,000 doses because returning the borrowed vaccines later was a decision that could only be made by the CITF,” said the former Penang chief minister.
“Apart from the 200,000 borrowed vaccines that are to be returned, there should be some clarification on Amirudin’s donation of the 20,000 doses.”
The 200,000 doses are said to be part of the 500,000 being distributed by Selangor to other states in need of vaccines through the CITF.
Lim said this arrangement was necessary as there was an expiry date to the 1.25 million vaccines purchased by the Selangor government.
Yesterday, Selangor health committee chairman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said there were some 607,281 unused doses of vaccines under its Selvax Industry programme, which will be sold to clinics nationwide.
While the state government had planned to purchase 2.5 million doses, she said, they stopped at 1.25 million.
