According to Harian Metro, Sajat was detained by the immigration authorities.along with a Thai transgender at a luxury condominium in Bangkok.
Citing unnamed sources, it said the Thai immigration department was believed to have tracked Sajat after receiving information from the Malaysian police on June 4.
“On Sept 8, at around 6pm, a raid was carried out at her hiding place.
“As a result, Sajat was arrested and the Thai immigration has confirmed that she was the individual who escaped and is wanted by the Malaysian authorities. In fact, the passport belonging to the cosmetics entrepreneur had also been revoked by the Malaysian government,” it said.
Sajat was reportedly detained at the Thai immigration headquarters’ division for illegal immigrants-related offences in the country.
The source said Sajat only showed a copy of her passport to the investigating officer via her mobile phone when she was arrested.
“Checks by Thai immigration found that Sajat’s passport had been cancelled by the Malaysian government. She then handed over the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) card and said she was a refugee.
“After interrogation by the Thai immigration officer, it was learnt that Nur Sajat was seeking permission to move and take refuge in Australia,” it said, adding that Sajat had obtained a UNHCR card issued by the body’s headquarters in Bangkok.
According to the report, Sajat was charged in a Thai court on Sept 9 for the immigration offence, but was released on Sept 10 on US$2,000 (RM8,343) bail.
“The money was paid by an acquaintance known as Misha who reportedly flew to Thailand for Nur Sajat’s bail,” the source said, adding that Sajat was still sheltering at a luxury condominium in central Bangkok.
The source also said that despite being released on bail, Sajat had been ordered to appear at the Thai immigration office every 14 days.
Malaysian police have confirmed that Sajat has been arrested for holding a fake passport in Thailand.
Criminal Investigation Department Abd Jalil Hassan said Sajat had earlier been charged in Malaysia under Section 186 and 353 of the Penal Code for obstructing authority and using aggression to intimidate authorities in conducting their duties.
“Efforts are being made to bring the suspect home,” said Jalil.
