In a statement, Melaka’s deputy health director (public health) Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman confirmed that the incident occurred outside a walk-in PPV in Klebang, and involved a 12-year-old boy accompanied by his family.
He said that no side effects were noted during the boy’s vaccination nor during the observation period, aside from some nervousness.
However, upon reaching the parking lot, “the teenager was suddenly weak and collapsed”, and had to be carried by his family members back into the PPV for further examination.
The medical officer on duty found that the boy’s condition was stable with his vital signs (blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels) being normal.
After 30-minutes of observation, he was allowed to go home in a stable condition.
“Further investigation found that the boy had slept at 2am. Apart from that, he also had no appetite and had only eaten a spoonful of nasi lemak that morning.
“This boy did not have any health problems, had never been hospitalised, and had no previous history of allergies. This incident has been confirmed to have been due to nervousness, a lack of sleep, and not eating breakfast before his vaccination.”
He reminded parents to ensure their children are well rested and fed before they arrive for vaccinations, and reminded the public not to spread inaccurate information or news.
