The menteri besar, Hasni Mohammad, said the proposed holiday on Dec 1 would celebrate the success of the Southern Tigers, if they win, as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of the country’s most prestigious football tournament.
“The Malaysia Cup is 100 years old and it is very historic and I believe we are all waiting for JDT to win this trophy,” he said.
Hasni hoped that JDT would be able to field the best players in the final against KL City FC at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
Defending champions JDT confirmed their slot in the final after recording a 4-1 aggregate victory over Terengganu FC (TFC) when they won the second leg of the semi-final by 3-0 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium here last night.
KL City FC advanced to the final after beating Melaka United 5-3 on aggregate through penalty kicks after both teams were tied 1-1 at the end of extra time at Hang Jebat Stadium.
The first leg at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras, had ended in a 1-1 draw.
