Animal droppings found at noodle factory in Penang

The factory has been closed for two weeks after unsanitary conditions were discovered during a health inspection.

The local health authorities also said the noodles were not properly stored or covered.
PETALING JAYA:
A noodle processing factory in Jalan Patani, George Town was ordered to shut for 14 days after it was found operating in unsanitary conditions by the local health authorities today.

The 14-day shutdown order was issued by the Penang health department after food safety inspectors found animal droppings at the flour storage areas in the factory.

The division’s environmental health director Mohd Wazir Khalid said the factory also violated the health codes by keeping the materials used in processing noodles and kuey teow on the factory floor. His division had issued a compound to the factory.

“We saw rat and cockroach droppings, as well as uncovered dried noodles. Some were only covered with newspapers.

“The disappointing part was that this factory has halal and Mosti logos. Therefore, we will be filing complaints to the relevant authorities so that they will retract the factory’s logo usage,” he said, Kosmo reported.
