Hadi meets Taliban rep, pledges aid for Afghanistan

PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia has promised to help Afghanistan with humanitarian and economic assistance, including aid to redevelop the country, according to a spokesman of the Taliban-run Afghan government.

Suhail Shaheen said the assurance was given by Abdul Hadi Awang, Malaysia’s special envoy to the Middle East, in Qatar yesterday.

“In a tweet, Suhail said Hadi promised that Malaysia would do what it could for the Afghan people.

Hadi’s office said in a statement on Facebook that he was on a four-day visit to Qatar to work with the country in redeveloping Afghanistan, including coordination of humanitarian aid, and to strengthen Malaysia’s ties with Qatar.
