PAS violated its own constitution when working with PN, says Khairuddin

The former minister, who quit PAS on Monday, says the alliance was not raised at the central committee level or with the Syura Council.

Khairuddin Aman Razali says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang only discussed the party’s alliance with Perikatan Nasional with ‘two or three’ people.
PETALING JAYA:
Khairuddin Aman Razali, who quit PAS on Monday, has accused the party of violating its own constitution.

The former plantation industries and commodities minister cited the alliance PAS has with Perikatan Nasional, the coalition led by Muhyiddin Yassin.

He claimed that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang only discussed the matter with “two or three” people before signing a pact with PN.

“It was signed without it being raised at the central committee or the Syura Council. And this is a mistake,” he said in a televised interview last night.

Khairuddin’s decision to quit the party came a month after PAS sacked him as the secretary of its Syura Council, citing disciplinary issues.

In January, he was expelled from the party’s central committee.

He also revealed that when he was the secretary of the Syura Council, he had been tasked with coming up with a working paper on the direction the party should take in the 15th general election.

In it, he said, he outlined a strategy to arrest Pakatan Harapan’s progress by strengthening PAS’ ties with Umno and Bersatu.

“And when I pointed out that the pact with PN was not in line with the party’s convention, the president blamed me for the mistake.”

He said this differed from the establishment of Muafakat Nasional (MN), the pact it forged with Umno in 2019, which he said went through the proper channel.

In MN’s case, he said, a working paper was produced at the central committee stage before it was brought up to the Syura Council and raised at its muktamar.

“This is the process, but what happened when it came to PN?” he asked.

Khairuddin also described statements of PAS wanting to remain with MN as just talk.

“In reality, PAS wants to remain with PN,” he said.
