PETALING JAYA:
Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has vowed that there will be no cover-up in the death of a 21-year-old accounting student, as authorities carry out their investigations at the campus today.

A statement released by the university’s corporate communications unit said six officers from the Energy Commission and the police visited the hostel where R Vinosiny died last Saturday.

She is suspected to have suffered a fatal electric shock in her hostel room.

The statement quoted vice-chancellor Haim Hilman Abdullah as saying that the campus management would give its full cooperation and not withhold any facts related to the incident.

“UUM will continue to assist in the probe as the student is part of the university’s large family,” said the statement.

“Members of the public are urged to refrain from speculating about the incident and let the authorities carry out their probe to identify the cause of death.”

Earlier today, Harian Metro reported that Kubang Pasu district police had yet to determine the cause of Vinosiny’s death and that they were still waiting for the autopsy report.

District police chief Rodzi Abu Hassan confirmed receiving a report on the death of the student. The case has been classified as sudden death.

He said the student was believed to have had a seizure but police were still waiting for the chemist’s report.
