
Seremban district police chief Nanda Maarof said a 28-year-old suspect was nabbed at the scene after he was believed to have caused an accident involving five vehicles at Km243.3 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) yesterday.
“The man was believed to be high on drugs and police found a plastic packet suspected to contain 3.39g of cannabis.
“The suspect, who is unemployed, has been remanded for four days starting today,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
In the 10.40am incident, the suspect’s car was believed to have lost control and crashed into the rear of another vehicle driven by a 44-year-old man.
This second vehicle flipped several times and hit two other cars. Its rear tyre also became detached and hit another car in the opposite lane. All the victims escaped unhurt.
At Km1 Jalan Kuala Dipang-Malim Nawar, an employee of the Kampar district and land office was killed in a collision between his car and a vehicle driven by a man believed to be drunk last night.
Kampar district police chief Nazri Daud identified the victim as Nazri Sham Aring, 42.
“Investigations show that a car driven by a 29-year-old lorry driver, suspected to be drunk, entered the victim’s lane and caused the head-on collision at 11.45pm,” he said in a statement today.
He said the victim’s 33-year-old wife was slightly injured and their three-year-old son suffered internal bleeding in the head. Another passenger in the car was unhurt.
He said the lorry driver has been remanded for five days to assist in investigations.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist and his pillion rider died after a car, with a suspected drunk driver at the wheel, crashed into them at Jalan Serkam Pantai, Merlimau, Jasin, this morning.
Melaka traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Amran @ Zaki Omar said in the 7.45am incident, motorcyclist Ezuddin Mohammad, 50, and his pillion rider, Surayah Muhamat, 48, died from severe injuries to the head and body.
Another motorcyclist, Ya’akob Mohamad, 57, was slightly injured after his motorcycle burst into flames in the collision.
Amran said the motorist lost control of his car and entered the opposite lane before colliding with the two motorcycles.
He said the car also hit another motorcycle parked by the roadside, before crashing into a house.
The 24-year-old motorist was also slightly injured.
