PUTRAJAYA:
Muhyiddin Yassin has denied claims that senior minister Azmin Ali will quit Bersatu, barely a month after another federal minister left the party.

The Bersatu president also denied that deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker Rashid Hasnon would also leave the party.

Muhyiddin said he meets with Azmin, who is the international trade and industry minister, frequently to “discuss the future”.

“So, these rumours are untrue,” he told reporters when asked about such talk.

Muhyiddin also said he had met Rashid, who is the Batu Pahat MP, during the recent Raya celebrations.

“And he never mentioned about wanting to quit Bersatu.”

Muhyiddin also wondered why such rumours around Bersatu were being spread when there was no need to fear the party.

“We are just a small party.”

Plantation industries and commodities minister Zuraida Kamaruddin quit Bersatu on May 26.

Along with Azmin, she had joined Bersatu after being sacked from PKR in the wake of the Sheraton Move in 2020.

On Zuraida remaining as a minister, Muhyiddin said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob would meet with him once he has met with the Ampang MP.

“The date of the meeting has yet to be confirmed.”

He reiterated the party’s stance that the post should be given to an MP from Bersatu.
