Annuar, who is the communications and multimedia minister, also said it was merely an “understanding, not an agreement”, between an outgoing prime minister and his successor.
“To me, it’s perfectly normal. It’s like handing-over notes. But that understanding was limited to matters related to the formation of (Ismail’s) government.
“I notice there is speculation (on the agreement), extending to the appointment of the attorney-general (AG). I can confirm this is not true.
“It was only limited to the main issues, like the formation of the Cabinet and election matters,” he told a press conference.
The Ketereh MP was responding to former Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Adam’s claim that Ismail had purportedly agreed to expedite the criminal court cases of former prime minister Najib Razak and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The agreement was purportedly signed before Ismail’s appointment as prime minister last August.
Copies of four pages of the agreement, which appear to contain 10 points, made their rounds in July. However, pages containing points 7, 8 and 9 were omitted.
According to Lokman, those points included an agreement by Ismail to retain Attorney-General Idrus Harun. Idrus was appointed AG after Muhyiddin took office as the eighth prime minister.
Previously, controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin had shared the purported agreement on his blog.
The document allegedly contained 10 points, but the pages containing points 7, 8, and 9 were not published.
