Fire in Kudat destroys 20 houses, leaves 200 homeless

An area covering 202 sq metres was completely destroyed.

A Sabah fire and rescue department spokesman says 21 personnel and three fire engines were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 2.28am.

About 200 residents were left homeless after a fire destroyed 20 houses at  Kampung Tanjung Kapur here early this morning.

A Sabah fire and rescue department spokesman said 21 personnel and three fire engines were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 2.28am.

“No casualties were reported. However, the area of 202 sq metres was completely destroyed.

“The blaze was put under control at 4.20am and the firefighting operation ended at 6.43am,” he said.

The civil defence force, Kampung Air volunteer firefighters and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) assisted in the operation.

The cause of the fire and losses are still being ascertained.
