This means that the former Perak menteri besar is set to take on opposition leader and Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim for the seat.
In a statement, Faizal said he was a native of Tambun, which meant it was his responsibility to continue serving the area.
“I welcome those who want to challenge me for the Tambun parliamentary seat,” the caretaker youth and sports minister said.
Yesterday, Anwar announced he will be vying for the Tambun seat in GE15, having served as Port Dickson MP until the dissolution of Parliament.
Anwar had also served as the Permatang Pauh MP in Penang for five terms between 1982 and 2015.
Earlier today, Faizal told FMT he was confident that Bersatu’s election machinery was capable of helping him fend off the PKR president.
“I don’t feel threatened. In fact, I can see that the Bersatu machinery is more energised for the polls,” he said, expressing confidence that Perikatan Nasional could go on to form the federal and Perak governments.
Faizal had won the Tambun seat with a majority of 5,320 votes in the last general election (GE14) under a Pakatan Harapan ticket. He had defeated Barisan Nasional’s Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and PAS’ Ibrahim Zakaria.
