PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is probing the circulation of a purported agreement that Umno candidates signed, which stated their support for Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Barisan Nasional’s prime minister candidate.

According to Bernama, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the anti-graft agency had opened an investigation paper over the matter.

Zahid’s press secretary, Fadzlette Othman Merican, had said the agreement was fake.

A copy of the so-called agreement had gone viral, stating among others that the candidates agreed to support Zahid as BN’s prime minister candidate.

The leaked document appears to bear the signatures of a candidate, Zahid and Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.

Zahid had described claims of him asking Umno candidates to back him for the country’s top post as “a lie”.

The picture of the agreement that went viral bore the signature of Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who was yesterday named as the BN candidate for the Lenggong parliamentary seat.

Shamsul’s political secretary had lodged a police report over the matter earlier today.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was previously named Umno’s prime ministerial candidate should the coalition win GE15.

Zahid had stated on Oct 16 that the decision to nominate the Umno vice-president for the post was final.
