Johan told FMT about an incident where almost 200 Hulu Langat residents found themselves on top of the Nanding surau roof when their homes were hit by floods last December.
“That incident taught me to always be ready,” he said.
The floods, which happened in the blink of an eye, destroyed thousands of homes in Hulu Langat, including in Taman Sri Nanding, Dusun Nanding, Sungai Serai, Batu 15, Batu 16 and Kampung Jaya.
It was described as the worst flooding incident in the history of the area.

Johan and Sany agree that floods are a main concern for voters in the constituency, but each has a different approach in handling the same problem.
While Johan is focused on controlling development in Hulu Langat, Sany wants more funds channelled to handle natural disasters and for stricter monitoring on government allocations.
“I will push for more controlled development to put an end to illegal logging and deforestation,” said Johan.
Sany, on the other hand, said the federal government should be allocating more funds into efforts such as building floodwalls, deepening river beds and the requisite maintenance.
In the last general election, the Hulu Langat parliamentary seat was won by PH’s Hasanuddin Yunus with a majority of 25,424 votes against candidates from PAS and BN.
On Saturday, Johan and Sany will also be facing off against Perikatan Nasional’s Radzi Abd Latif, Warisan’s Abdul Rahman Jaafar, Pejuang’s Markiman Kobiran and independent candidate Mohamed Mustafa.
