PETALING JAYA:
Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang held a meeting with Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg to discuss the formation of a federal government.

This follows the outcome of the general election (GE15) in which no party won sufficient seats to form the government on its own.

“Negotiations are also being held with other parties and independent MPs. God willing, a federal government can be formed soon.”

Abang Johari is the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin said PN received a letter from Istana Negara with specific instructions on the requirements it needs to fulfill.

He added that PN was ready to work with any party to form a government that is “clean, stable, and caring”.

However, he said these parties have to be aligned with the coalition’s principles.

He insisted, though, that PN would not work with Pakatan Harapan.

None of the coalitions were able to win enough seats to form the government on its own.

As it stands, PH, together with Muda, have the highest number of seats with 82.

This was followed by PN (73), Barisan Nasional (30), GPS (22), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (6), Warisan (3), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (1) and two independents.
