The unofficial tally puts the coalition within striking distance of achieving the 30 seats needed for a majority.
Perikatan Nasional comprises Bersatu, PAS and some minor parties.
If the unofficial results hold true, PN will be in pole position to secure the 30 seats needed to form the state government on its own.
The state government was previously made up of a combination of PN, Barisan Nasional and Parti Bangsa Malaysia.
Perak, along with Perlis and Pahang, had dissolved its state assembly in October in line with the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat. None of the other states opted to follow suit.
In 2018, Perak was won by PH led by Bersatu’s Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
However, not long after his party left the coalition to align itself with BN, Faizal lost a confidence vote that saw him lose the menteri besar post.
He was replaced by Umno’s Saarani Mohammad.
