Earlier, reporters spotted Gerakan president Dominic Lau at the hotel.
When Ismail was asked why he was at the hotel, the Umno vice-president simply said, “I don’t know yet”.
Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan was also spotted driving past the hotel, headed towards the carpark.
Members of the media have gathered at the hotel since 1pm, but were later told to remain outside hotel grounds as there was an ongoing “unofficial meeting”.
There is also speculation that PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin will be heading to the hotel later. Reporters have been camped outside the former prime minister’s house since this morning.
Also spotted at the hotel earlier was Nazir Razak, the brother of former prime minister Najib Razak.
According to Malaysiakini, an Umno source confirmed that BN and PN leaders will be meeting at St Regis.
Aside from Mohamad, MCA president Wee Ka Siong, MIC deputy president M Saravanan, and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) deputy president Arthur Kurup will also be there.
The portal also reported that BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will not be joining the meeting.
It is believed that BN leaders left the hotel around 5.10pm and that the meeting had already ended.
