PETALING JAYA:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed confidence in having greater ties between the federal government and the Sarawak state government following a visit from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Abang Johari Openg at his house this morning.

Anwar praised GPS as a “pillar” in the unity government he leads together with Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), with support from MPs from Muda, Warisan and Parti Bangsa Malaysia.

“The relationship between the federal government and Sarawak will certainly strengthen plans to build a better Malaysia,” he said in a Facebook post.

GPS and GRS had initially backed Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister following the inconclusive results of last Saturday’s general election, in which no coalition or party won a simple majority to form the government.

The two Borneo coalitions eventually said they would follow the King’s wish for a unity government.
