Covid-19 cases down 35% to 1,350 last week

The number of deaths also dropped by 66.7%, with eight reported compared with 24 the week before.

The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped by 35.3% last week to 1,350, from 2,088 recorded the week before, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending Jan 28, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 to 5 rose by 6.3% per 100,000 from the preceding week.

He said overall bed occupancy for non-critical and ICU beds decreased by 1%.

Active cases declined during the week to 9,478 from 10,042 the previous week.

“Recoveries dropped by 8.5% from 2,379 cases to 2,177,” Noor Hisham said.

“The number of deaths stood at eight, 66.7% down from 24 the week before, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,940.”

He said a total of 5,035,871 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.
