KUALA LUMPUR:
Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) was ordered to leave the Dewan Rakyat for repeatedly disrupting economy minister Rafizi Ramli’s winding-up speech on Budget 2023.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul also suspended the PAS MP from the Dewan Rakyat for two days, starting from today.

Awang had ignored Johari’s instruction to sit and be quiet after being given several warnings for repeatedly interjecting during Rafizi’s speech.

Prior to instructing Awang to be ejected from the hall, Johari had repeatedly said that any MP that disrupted the winding-up speeches of other ministers would face action.

“I ask that whoever stands up (to interject) to leave. If the minister allows them to interject, then it’s fine. This is the Dewan Rakyat’s Standing Orders, follow the Standing Orders,” said the Speaker.

Earlier, Rafizi told Awang not to “run away” from the Dewan Rakyat since the latter had raised multiple issues during his debate that fell under the minister’s purview.

“When the minister wants to respond, he leaves (the hall). This concerns the people. Don’t go on the offensive only when the minister isn’t around.

“All of Malaysia and the Dewan Rakyat are watching, Pendang. When the minister wants to respond (to your debate), you run away,” said Rafizi.

Awang then fended off Rafizi’s jibes and defended himself, saying he would not run away from the House. “This (Rafizi) is the king of fake formulas.”

Rafizi later retorted that Awang was a “clown”, sparking uproar in the Dewan Rakyat with the PAS MP urging the minister to retract his remark.

Rafizi then withdrew the remark after Johari asked him to do so.
