Reject Islamophobia, acts of violence, says Anwar

The prime minister calls on Malaysians to practise moderation as Ramadan approaches.

Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia is ready to cooperate constructively and collectively with the world community to combat Islamophobia and all acts of hatred.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Islamophobia and all acts of hatred or violence against individuals based on religion or belief must be rejected, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He said Malaysia was ready to cooperate constructively and collectively with the world community in this effort.

“Malaysia wholeheartedly joins the world community in commemorating the International Day to Combat Islamophobia on March 15.

“This is not a day to be celebrated, but a day to enhance awareness among the global community on the need for action to combat Islamophobia,” he said in a Facebook post today.

With Muslims around the world welcoming the month of Ramadan soon, Anwar called on the people to practise moderation in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani and to reject extremist ideologies in celebrating the holy month.
