Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, Zaidi Zainal and Hamidi Noh called on the AGC to make a decision before the defence calls on more witnesses to testify in the deputy prime minister’s trial.
“A decision on these representations is needed urgently to ensure both sides can save on costs and time,” they said in a joint statement.
Zahid is standing trial on charges of money laundering and criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving millions from Yayasan Akalbudi, and accepting bribes for various projects during his tenure as home minister.
Twelve of the charges are for CBT, eight for corruption and the remainder for money laundering.
During proceedings on April 10, the court was told that the defence had made its representations to the AGC in January and February.
On Aug 1, the prosecution told the High Court that it was still considering Zahid’s representations which involve new evidence connected to the case.
Zahid’s lawyers said the Bagan Datuk MP’s representations revolve around the alleged political nature of his charges, adding that their client had solid evidence to back his claim.
They said it was normal for the defence to submit representations to the AGC and that it was Zahid’s right as an accused.
The lawyers said it was unfair for anyone to politicise the matter or claim that there is any sort of interference in the case.
“We will take legal action against parties who act in a way that prejudices our client as he is only exercising his right to make these representations,” the statement added.
