“He will receive the letter soon,” Zahid told reporters after launching the MyNext programme at Bukit Jalil here today.
Isham, a former Umno information chief, had questioned his removal from the party’s Supreme Council chat group, despite not receiving any notice that he had been sacked.
Yesterday, Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan confirmed that Isham had been given his marching orders.
Isham was elected as an Umno Supreme Council member during the party’s elections in March.
Previously a strong supporter of Zahid, he has been critical of him and the party’s cooperation with DAP since the outcome of the six state elections in August.
In September, he went as far as to challenge Zahid to sack him over his criticism of Umno’s relationship with DAP and Pakatan Harapan.
Separately, Zahid agreed with his secretary-general, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, that Umno is now a “very weak” party.
He said while various measures had been taken to revive the party, the results had fallen short of expectations.
He said attempts to rejuvenate the party “only made it worse”.
“So the leadership is introducing new training exercises, not only to inspire, but to foster better teamwork.”
Earlier today, Berita Harian reported Asyraf as saying that Umno was not as dominant as before.
