Mujahid acts to enforce court costs order on PAS man

Former PAS ulama council committee member Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani was supposed to pay legal costs of RM23,000 after withdrawing his appeal in August.

The Shah Alam sessions court had last year dismissed a defamation suit filed by PAS’s Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani (right) against Mujahid Yusof Rawa for comments he made on Twitter in 2020.
PETALING JAYA:
Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa has commenced action to enforce awards for legal costs totalling RM23,000 payable by a former PAS leader.

He said the sum became payable after Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani withdrew an appeal to the Court of Appeal following the dismissal by the lower courts of a lawsuit he brought against the former religious affairs minister.

The former PAS ulama council committee member had sued Mujahid for defamation over claims that Tabung Haji’s assets had been sold to non-Muslims.

In his tweet, Mujahid had accused Dusuki of telling “lies and slander” for claiming that Tabung Haji’s assets had been sold to non-Muslims.

Mujahid said Dusuki withdrew his appeal in August but has yet to settle the legal costs awarded by the courts in his favour.

“My lawyers have issued letters of demand to Dusuki since September for failing to pay the legal costs.

“Despite withdrawing the appeal, he is still questioning the court’s decision,” he said on Facebook.

Mujahid added that his lawyers have attempted to serve notice of a judgment debtor summons on Dusuki several times but the latter has refused to accept service.

“I would like to remind him that the costs due are a debt which the court has ordered him to pay.”

Last year, the Shah Alam sessions court dismissed Dusuki’s defamation suit against Mujahid for comments made on Twitter in 2020. He was ordered to pay Mujahid RM11,000 in costs.

A subsequent appeal to the High Court was also dismissed.

In September, Mujahid said his lawyers had sent a notice demanding Dusuki settle a total of RM23,000 in legal costs ordered by the court. The sum includes costs awarded by the High Court and Court of Appeal against Dusuki.
