Sentul police chief Sukarno Zahari said a 39-year-old man filed a report on Saturday over the alleged intimidation against the content creator.
He said the suspect was arrested at 1.45am today at the Bukit Beruntung Golf Resort in Rawang.
“The suspect is being held on remand at the Sentul police headquarters until July 10 to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement.
Previously, an activist called on the government to take action following the death of Esha, 29, who was reportedly bullied on social media.
David Marshel stated that the woman was harassed by several individuals, most of whom used pseudonyms or fake accounts.
Sukarno said the suspect, who works as a caretaker at an elderly home, did not know the victim personally and only knew of her through TikTok.
The suspect allegedly uploaded a video containing profanities, using the victim’s picture as its background.
He said the police were tracking down another suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which provides for up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both; Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for up to a year in prison, a fine up to RM50,000 or both; and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100.
A day before her death, Esha, who was also a Hindu rights activist, filed a police report against two people for allegedly harassing her on TikTok.
