TEMERLOH:
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has asserted that the party has no intention of working with Pakatan Harapan under any circumstances.

In his policy speech at the 70th PAS muktamar in Temerloh, Hadi affirmed that the Islamic party is resolutely committed to remaining in Perikatan Nasional.

“PAS stands firm in supporting PN and reviving the true Muafakat Nasional (MN),” he said without providing further details on the specific aspects of MN he was referring to.

“PAS unequivocally rejects any form of collaboration with PH.”

PAS had previously partnered with DAP and PKR in the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

The three parties worked together under Pakatan Rakyat in the 2013 general election but the coalition broke up a few months after the death of its former spiritual leader, Nik Aziz Nik Mat, in February 2015.

Some PAS leaders and their supporters then left the party to form Amanah, which later teamed up with PKR and DAP to form PH.

Meanwhile, Umno and PAS formed Muafakat Nasional in 2019, in the aftermath of the 14th general election in 2018, when Umno lost power for the first time in over 60 years.

However, this pact did not last after Umno accused PAS of betraying the agreement by deciding to work with its splinter party, Bersatu, instead.

In his speech, Hadi also emphasised PAS’s commitment to unity among Muslims and “non-extremist non-Muslims who accept Islam as a solution and respect Islamic leadership”.

“PAS will continue to get close to those who are sincere in accepting Islam as a solution while rejecting those who are ‘telunjuknya lurus tetapi kelengkengnya berkait’ (appear righteous but have hidden agendas),” he said.

“We intend to preserve the integrity of Islam and Malay identity in our beloved homeland.”
