Discuss partnerships for polls directly with us, says Sabah PKR

State PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin says there is no need to talk to the central leadership because the local chapter knows the issues better.

PETALING JAYA:
Any discussion of cooperation with Barisan Nasional or other parties should be done directly with Sabah PKR, not the central leadership, says Sabah PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin.

Arguing that it has full autonomy in making decisions on its partnerships in the upcoming state election, Razeef said Sabah PKR knows best which parties are suitable to work with.

“We are still open (to partnerships). We just don’t want decisions to be made without our knowledge. Show us some respect here. We know the issues better. We will decide and inform the PKR president,” he said at a press conference today.

BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was previously reported as saying his coalition and Pakatan Harapan have confirmed a partnership for the state election next year.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh also said Sabah PKR is expected to maintain its existing alliance with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and BN in the polls.

She said the ruling coalition is likely to stay intact, with discussions among the leadership ongoing.

However, Razeef said there have been no formal discussions on partnerships between Sabah PKR and BN, GRS or other parties.

“It is not that PH does not represent PKR, but so far, we have not been called for any discussion,” he said, adding that Sabah PKR remains comfortable with the partnership with GRS and BN at the federal level.

Razeef also said PH is ready to compete for all 73 Sabah seats, and is almost done with internal negotiations on the allocation of seats between its component parties.

On the possibility of a partnership with Warisan, Razeef said he personally does not see the need for it, given that the party’s leaders have frequently criticised PKR.

“We have seen several statements by Warisan leaders attacking us. Why would we work with people who attack us?” he said.
