A few changes had to be made to PKR’s 2022 election results following a forensic audit which found that there were attempts to hack the election results, with the experts involved in the audit also recommending that the party update its voting records.
Speaking to FMT, Fuziah said PKR is still deliberating on the best approach for the next party elections and is examining which system or mechanism would be the fairest.
“Party president Anwar Ibrahim has also mentioned that we will appoint a third party to address the shortcomings of the past,” said Fuziah when asked about the current voting system and the future of PKR’s party elections.
“There may even be an open tender process to select this third party. I will also suggest that we hold live voting results to ensure transparency and build trust among our members.”
Last month, Anwar, who is also the prime minister, underscored the urgency for PKR to hold party elections without further delay, Bernama reported.
Speaking at the opening of the Perak PKR convention in Ipoh, Anwar said fast-tracking elections would foster collaboration between the younger generation and experienced leaders, giving them more time to effectively manage the party together.
Separately, in a letter to PKR members sighted by FMT, Fuziah said the deadline for new membership registration and branch transfers ahead of the party polls had been set for Dec 15.
Fuziah said bulk branch transfer applications will not be entertained, stating that such applications have to be made on an individual basis.
In her interview with FMT, Fuziah also highlighted the need for party members to get to know their leaders better before voting to avoid problems associated with block voting.
Fuziah said one of the main challenges is that candidates often neglect regular engagement with members throughout their term, only reaching out when elections are near.
The senator said PKR’s leadership is committed to upholding three key principles to help the party grow – participatory democracy, proportional representation, and consultation and reconciliation.
Fuziah said these principles form the backbone of PKR’s mission and values. The party is dedicated to ensuring these principles are reflected in every aspect of its operations.
“We are currently conducting a nationwide tour to explain these principles to our members and, more importantly, to listen to their concerns,” she said.
“This is part of our broader efforts to rejuvenate the party and strengthen the foundation of our reformist movement.”
