
Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Yusri Hassan Basri said the operation was held from 12.01am this morning, involving 2,556 policemen.
A total of 11,157 vehicles were checked by the police, leading to 5,433 summonses issued for various traffic offences, Harian Metro reported him as saying.
Yusri said 1,021 summonses were issued for driving over the speed limit, 953 for illegal use of the emergency lane, and 433 for running red lights.
Police also arrested 33 people under the Road Transport Act 1987, two for offences under the Penal Code and one under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Police also seized 466 vehicles – 398 motorcycles which had illegal modifications, 66 cars and two “other vehicles”.
