PETALING JAYA:
Religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar has called for stern action after a youth was seen carrying a young girl in what has been widely described as a sexual assault at a mosque in Batang Kali this morning.

Na’im said the case must be taken seriously and fully investigated, and should be a lesson to mosque and surau managements to increase safety measures.

“I hope that if the suspect is proven to have committed the offence, stern action will be taken as a lesson to all,” he said in a statement.

Police have confirmed receiving a report on a youth who allegedly sexually assaulted a girl at Masjid Jamek Sungai Masin in Batang Kali.

Earlier, a video was shared on social media showing CCTV footage of a person sneaking into the ladies’ area of the mosque’s prayer hall and scooping up the girl while she was performing morning prayers behind a congregation of women.

Police have picked up a 19-year-old suspect.
