In a statement, Syerleena described PAS Youth’s protest as a masterclass in political absurdity.
She said Malaysians were not under seige, nor was the government bulldozing homes in occupied territories.
The government was not even displacing communities through military force, she added.
“Comparing a legitimate urban planning policy to Zionist aggression is not only intellectually dishonest but dangerously irresponsible.”
PAS Youth deputy chief Hafez Sabri had drawn parallels with the plight of the Palestinians when insisting that the bill would pressure urbanites, especially the poorer Malays, to relocate and hand over their land.
“We are very concerned that the strategy to drive out Palestinians in the past is making a comeback. The residents risk losing their rights. This is a form of modern colonisation that must be stopped,” he said.
Syerleena, who previously defended the proposed law, asked if PAS was deliberately inciting sedition by insinuating that the country’s democratically elected government operated like an occupying force.
“If so, they should be prepared to answer for such reckless rhetoric,” the Bukit Bendera MP added.
She said the Urban Renewal Act was about revitalising cities, preventing decay, and ensuring safer, better living environments.
“Instead of championing progress, they prefer their usual theatrics – manufacturing outrage over policies they barely understand,” she said.
The opposition previously claimed that the proposed law was a subtle method to displace poor Malays and Indians.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim however said yesterday that the proposed act would not force property owners to give up their homes or alter the ethnic composition of residential areas.
