KUALA LUMPUR:
Every Malaysian has the responsibility to maintain unity based on the five principles of Rukun Negara, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah said in their Hari Raya message tonight.

“Apart from fostering unity in a prudent and productive manner, efforts must also be made to curb elements that threaten to cause divisions,” the royal couple said.

They said harmony and unity at all levels of society formed the foundations of nationhood that must be preserved and nurtured for future generations.

“It must also be understood that there is no end date when it comes to maintaining unity. It is something that must continue forever – educating, nurturing and instilling (such values in) our people,” they said.

The king and queen said unity must go below surface level, especially when the need arises to address situations where some are left upset by the actions of those who are ignorant.
