Sulaiman, formerly the Sik Amanah chief, sought to play down his change in party, saying this was simply to help strengthen Pakatan Harapan in Penang, where he has moved to.
He said he had no issues with the Amanah leadership, either at the state or national level, and that his move to PKR was purely strategic since he has relocated from Kedah to Penang for a while now.
Sulaiman said he remains loyal to PH and sees no issue in switching parties within the same coalition.
“It’s not a big deal. The struggle is the same. I’m still fighting for PH, just in a different jersey. It’s easier to work with my PKR friends here if I’m in the same party.
“I just want to help strengthen PKR in Tasek Gelugor, since I’ve now moved and registered as a voter in this (parliamentary) constituency,” he told FMT.
He said he wanted to help PH wrest the Tasek Gelugor seat from Bersatu. The constituency is currently represented by Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
Sulaiman was recently spotted at a Tasek Gelugor PKR event showing support for Penang deputy chief minister Mohamad Abdul Hamid, of PKR.
