PETALING JAYA:
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, today presented a personal donation through the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation to the victims of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights.

A total of 308 heads of households affected by Tuesday’s fire received a cash donation of RM1,000 each, reported Bernama.

Sultan Ibrahim handed the donations to the victims at the Putra Heights Mosque, where some of them are being temporarily housed.

Earlier today, the king spent about 40 minutes at the scene of the blast, which left a 10m-deep crater.

The eight-hour fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning along Jalan Putra Harmoni, engulfed a 500m section of the gas pipeline, causing severe damage to homes and vehicles.

A total of 235 premises were affected by the blaze, with 87 houses declared a “total loss” and deemed unfit for occupation, while 148 others can be occupied after repairs.

The Selangor government is considering relocating the victims to temporary homes from next week.

A total of 399 vehicles were also affected, with 225 burnt and 174 damaged.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously said the owners of houses that were destroyed by the fire would receive RM5,000, while those whose homes were partially damaged would receive RM2,500 each.

The government will discuss further aid measures when the Cabinet convenes for its weekly meeting next Wednesday.

Various other forms of aid have been offered to the victims, including 200 cars for temporary use by automotive companies such as Chery, GoCar, DRB-Hicom Bhd, Carro, and CARSOME.

Yesterday, the digital ministry said it will provide 100 laptops, 100 smartphones, 100 tablets and 500 power banks to victims of the fire after many of their devices had been lost and damaged.

Today, Panasonic Malaysia said it had allocated RM120,000 to provide RM500 e-vouchers to 240 impacted households for the purchase of new home appliances.
