PETALING JAYA:
A man has been arrested in Kuching, Sarawak, after stealing RM1,200 from a senior citizen he had pretended to help to withdraw money at an ATM.

Acting Kuching police chief Merbin Lisa said the incident occurred when the 75-year-old victim was struggling to withdraw money from the ATM at about 8.30am on March 30.

A man approached the victim and offered to help with the withdrawal, Harian Metro reported.

After the victim inserted his bank card and keyed in his password, the suspect selected a RM1,500 withdrawal amount but handed over only RM300 before fleeing with the rest of the cash.

Police arrested the suspect, a cleaner, yesterday afternoon.

“When questioned, he admitted to being involved in the incident,” said Merbin, adding that the suspect has been remanded until April 8, with police also looking into the possibility he was involved in other cases.
