PETALING JAYA:
A 48-year-old teacher died yesterday evening while taking part in a race at the Melaka International Motorsport Circuit in Durian Tunggal.

Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the teacher suffered severe head injuries in the 5pm incident and was rushed to Melaka Hospital before succumbing to his injuries at 10pm.

“An initial investigation revealed that the victim was participating in a car race organised by a motorsport club.

“The victim, who was driving a Honda Civic, is believed to have lost control of the vehicle while navigating a sharp corner, as the car veered to the left side of the track,” he was quoted as saying.

Dzulkhairi said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.

Police are also investigating if the incident was caused by the circuit’s management, the organisers of the race, or the deceased.
