KUALA LUMPUR:
An NGO has lodged a police report against Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias for allegedly touching on the 3R issues of race, religion, and royalty in the state’s ongoing political crisis.

Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin, chairman of Sekretariat Taat Setia Sokongan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, urged the authorities to investigate Jalaluddin’s speech at Umno’s 80th anniversary celebration on Saturday.

He accused Jalaluddin of referring to the royal institution in his comments on the Negeri Sembilan political crisis, which he claimed was in breach of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959.

“We believe the speech touched on the sensitivities and sovereignty of the institution of Negeri Sembilan’s Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

“Matters of royalty should not be brought to the political stage,” he said after lodging his report at the Dang Wangi police station.

Megat also urged Umno to take responsibility and stop its leaders from touching on royal matters in their political speeches.

Last week, all 14 Umno assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan announced that they were withdrawing support for menteri besar Aminuddin Harun, citing his alleged failure to manage the institutional crisis.

In his speech last Saturday, Jalaluddin outlined the events of the crisis to explain why he and the other assemblymen withdrew their support for Aminuddin.

When contacted, he said he was prepared to be investigated by the police.
