PETALING JAYA:
Civil servants living more than 8km away from their office will be allowed to work from home for three days a week, effective April 15.

In a circular, public service director-general Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said this would only apply to civil servants serving in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor and the capital city of other states.

Those allowed to work from home are required to log into an online monitoring system every hour, to record their attendance through geolocation functions on their devices at home.

Civil servants in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will be allowed to work from home from Monday to Wednesday.

Other civil servants will be allowed to do so from Tuesday to Thursday.

Several sectors have been excluded from this arrangement, namely those in the security, health and education sectors. For the education sector, only officers not involved in schooling sessions will get to work from home.

“To ensure the delivery of public services are not affected, department heads must determine essential services and arrange the work from home days for such services according to operational suitability,” said Wan Ahmad Dahlan.

He added that department heads must identify the expected output of those working from home and check or confirm that they meet the set output.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that government ministries, agencies, statutory bodies and government-linked companies would implement work from home arrangements from April 15.

This is to save fuel and ensure a sustainable energy supply for the country amid the Iran war.
