6-year-old boy drowns in Penang canal

The boy’s body was found approximately 2km from where he was last seen.

PETALING JAYA:
A six-year-old boy drowned after falling into a canal in Kepala Batas, Penang, today.

The Penang fire and rescue department said it received a call about the incident at Jalan Bertam Perdana 2 at 5.03pm and deployed personnel from the Bertam and Kepala Batas fire and rescue stations to the scene.

The 15 firefighters arrived at 5.14pm and immediately launched a search and rescue operation.

The boy’s body was found at 5.47pm, approximately 2km from where he was last seen.

The boy was confirmed dead at the scene. His remains were brought to Kepala Batas Hospital.
