PETALING JAYA:
Three activists detained over a “silent protest” during a speech by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki were released by the police early this morning.

Liga Rakyat Demokratik president Hamdin Nordin, Liga Mahasiswa Malaysia activist Ahsanul Akmal Sulam, and Mandiri coordinator Fakrurrazzi Khairur Rijal were detained at the Dang Wangi police headquarters where they were supposed to remain in remand until tomorrow.

“Alhamdulillah, my friends and I have been released,” Hamdin said in an Instagram post.

The three activists were arrested on Tuesday after briefly disrupting an event at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur where Azam was speaking.

Two police reports were lodged over the incident.

Police said the activists were being probed for the obstruction of a public servant, incitement, criminal intimidation, and trespass.
