PETALING JAYA:
The Terengganu education department has denied claims that three students in Kemaman suffered a heatstroke after taking part in a cross-country run yesterday.

State education director Kamal Mohamed said the students instead experienced fatigue and symptoms of dehydration after the run, Buletin TV3 reported.

Kamal said the run took place in the morning with temperatures hovering between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius, and ended by 10.30am.

He said the school took immediate action by taking the students to the hospital for checks and informing their parents.

“One student underwent examination but required no further treatment, while another received intravenous fluids and was discharged yesterday.

“Another student was transferred to the Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre at Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia in Kuantan at the request of the parents, and his condition is stable,” he said.

Kamal said the district-level hygiene, health and safety panel would investigate the incident, maintaining that the state department took it seriously.

A video that went viral yesterday claimed that three students had to be rushed to hospital after suffering heatstroke following a cross-country run.
