169,803 SPM school leavers offered places at higher education institutions

The higher education ministry says admissions are based on the meritocracy principle, with eligible candidates ranked according to merit scores from highest to lowest.

A total of 169,803 students who sat for the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination have been offered places at public higher education institutions through UPUOnline.

The higher education ministry said 91,357 candidates received offers from public universities, 60,947 from polytechnics, 15,844 from community colleges and 1,655 from institutions under the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) higher education division, Bernama reported.

It said it received 235,480 eligible applications from SPM school leavers through UPUOnline this year.

“A total of 363 programmes were offered for this intake, comprising 41 certificate programmes, 57 foundation programmes, 264 diploma programmes and one bachelor’s degree programme.

“Admissions were based on the meritocracy principle, with eligible candidates ranked according to merit scores from highest to lowest.”

The ministry also provided special pathways for 701 persons with disabilities, 310 Orang Asli candidates, 179 athletes, 10,499 candidates from the B40 group and 65 candidates from institutions under the social welfare department.

Candidates who did not receive offers may submit appeals through UPUOnline from today until 5pm on May 31.
