11 Indonesians remanded over armed robbery spree in Penang

They have been remanded for a week to facilitate investigations into five armed robberies.

Eleven Indonesians, including two women aged 27 to 44, have been remanded for a week from today to aid investigations into five armed robberies in Penang.

Utusan Malaysia reported that magistrate Nurul Ainna Ahmad issued the remand order to facilitate the investigations under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.

It is understood that three suspects were arrested in Sungai Bakap, while another three were detained in Simpang Ampang. The remaining five were arrested in Ipoh, Perak, at around 12.40am today.

In the latest robbery at around 1.30am yesterday, a foreign worker said he was threatened and bound hand and foot with cable ties by six masked men armed with knives and parangs.

The victim said he lost over RM35,000, including his mobile phone, gold jewellery, and RM7,190 in cash.
