Anwar said the diesel is not from Petronas, and that Vitol is part of a foreign agreement to ship diesel for sale to the Philippines.

“We are not giving oil to the Philippines. We have also not stopped (Vitol). We allowed them to proceed. The oil belongs to another party in a foreign agreement,” Berita Harian reported him as saying at an event in Terengganu today.

Yesterday, the National Economic Action Council said the shipment is not from Malaysia, contrary to international media reports.

The Philippine News Agency previously reported that about 329,000 barrels, or 52 million litres, of diesel were sent from Malaysia to the Philippines.

The Edge also reported Petronas’s denial of involvement in supplying diesel to the Philippines.

The national oil and gas company clarified that it has not entered into any agreement to supply diesel to any party in the Philippines, stressing that its focus remains on fulfilling domestic requirements.

In a Facebook post yesterday, former Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil also called on Putrajaya to ask the Philippines which refinery the diesel came from, and to explain the matter to the public.
