Recounting the incident, the 100-year-old said he was doing his routine morning exercise when he lost control of his right leg and fell, fracturing his hip.
He said he also suffered a minor head injury and was in severe pain.
Mahathir was rushed to the National Heart Institute (IJN), where doctors attempted to manage his pain.
“The pain reduced after a few days, but it was still there,” he said in a snippet from an episode of “Podcast Dr M” shared on his Instagram account.
“But now, after three months, I have recovered and can stand… but I still can’t control my legs. It feels like I don’t have legs.”
Mahathir was admitted to IJN on Jan 6 for observation following the fall.
He was later allowed to return home after about a month as doctors were satisfied with his recovery and response to treatment and physiotherapy.
He underwent physiotherapy, instead of surgery, due to his age.
Mahathir has a history of heart ailments and previously underwent heart bypass operations in 1989 and 2007.
The former Langkawi MP has been admitted to IJN several times in recent years, including on July 13 last year after experiencing fatigue while attending a picnic and potluck in Putrajaya to mark his 100th birthday and his wife’s 99th birthday.
