KUALA LUMPUR:
A police officer suffering from schizophrenia was nabbed in Chan Sow Lin here last night following a police chase from Jalan Cheras.

The inspector, in his 40s, is believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run on Friday involving a traffic policeman.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said investigations revealed that the suspect was on sick leave.

“We are probing the case for reckless driving and obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties,” he said in a statement.

The suspect, who was driving a Perodua Axia, is believed to have hit Roslan Salleh, 27, who was directing traffic.

Roslan was injured in his right hand, ribs, and the back of his head.

Following the incident, Fadil said police managed to track down the car yesterday evening. However, the suspect fled when police attempted to arrest him.

“He attempted to escape and, in the process, rammed several cars, leading to a police chase from Jalan Cheras to Jalan Empat in Chan Sow Lin.”

The suspect was eventually arrested and tested negative for alcohol. He is, however, being screened for drugs.

Seven police reports have been lodged so far.
