Berita Harian reported that magistrate Arun Noval Dass ordered Hasni Muhamad, 36, to serve the prison sentence after he failed to pay RM4,500 in fines for both charges.
In the first charge, the father of three was accused of possessing a CZ P-07 pistol and 10 rounds of live ammunition without a valid licence in a house in Taman Pasifik Selatan, Batu Pahat on Sunday at 7.55pm.
The charge was brought under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine or both.
In the second charge, Hasni was accused of stealing the weapon belonging to a security company, which he found in the toilet of a petrol station on Jalan Kluang at 4.15pm the same day.
He was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which also provides for up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine or both.
According to the facts of the case, Hasni stopped at the petrol station in question where he found the weapon and ammunition. He took the items home, where his wife advised him to return them, but he refused.
Police later arrested Hasni at his home, acting on CCTV footage recorded at the petrol station. They found the items in a box at the back of the house.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan, while Hasni was represented by lawyer Kamarulariffin Nordin from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
